Tracey Emin

Tracey Emin was born in London in 1963. She spent her childhood in Margate. She trained at Maidstone School of Art and the Royal College of Art, London. Using her own life story as a plot in which she as artist is the main protagonist, Emin's work uses text, painting, drawings, embroidery, video and installations to expose her experiences in an unmediated manner. Often tragic, sometimes funny, her confessional work inspires and engages some while exasperating others. Recent exhibitions include I Need Art Like I Need God, South London Gallery, London and Gesellschaft für Aktuelle Kunst, Bremen (1998-99), Sobasex, Sagacho Exhibit Space, Tokyo (1998), Here to Stay: Arts Council Collection purchases of the 1990s, National Touring Exhibitions from the Hayward Gallery, London (1998), Pandaemonium, LEA Gallery and Lux Cinema, London (1998), Tracey Emin : Every Part of Me is Bleeding, Lehmann Maupin, New York (1999), and Turner Prize, Tate Gallery, London (1999). Tracey Emin lives and works in London.
